first 30 Days of Blogging: The Good & the Bad (Day 2 Results)

Mobile and tablet view of the blog incomemenu.com of the first 30 days of blogging challenge

This is day 2 of the first 30 days of the blogging challenge. The first day was fun, but the second day was more of a wakeup call. I saw a huge drop in growth and traffic. It’s not strange at all, and I kind of expected it even on day 1. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and this blog won’t either.

I know that there will be good days and bad days as I blog. But showing the ups and downs gives you a real look at what it takes to build something from nothing. Follow along as the trip goes on!

If I’m being honest, I’m on a really tight schedule, even though I will try to update this article daily. But I can’t promise you that. This is my day 2 of 30 days of blogging report. You can check out my previous days result from here.

  • Day 2: 26/08/2023
  • Blog posts published: 1
  • Total no. of blog posts published: 6
  • Total no. of blog posts Indexed: 5
  • Domain Ratings: 0

Chapter 1. Traffic stats

It’s a lot harder to get traffic to a blog than it is on social media, where we can post a selfie. And an algorithm gets us hundreds of likes. Getting traffic for a blog is as much work as making the content itself. SEO is my main way to bring people to my site.

Google Analytics stats for Day 2

So, on day 1, I submitted my URLs to Google Search Console to be indexed. When I checked, they had already indexed 4 of my 5 published articles. Compared to day 1, the traffic dropped by 96.1%. But that doesn’t matter much. Because, at this point, this is not real traffic. This is either traffic from bots or traffic from me checking up on the site. As I’m not ranked yet and don’t get many views on social media.

  • Bounce rate: 33.3%

Bing Analytics stats for Day 2

I had more trouble with Bing. I sent in my URLs, but none of them were indexed. I’ll look into it when I have more time. I’m pretty busy right now.

  • Total visitors and traffic sources: 0 😂

Pinterest Analytics

Even though Pinterest had a small drop, it still seems like a good way to get visitors as of right now. I need to find out what my rivals are doing to make their pins go viral.

  • Total Pins: 1

Twitter Analytics

Twitter results for day 2

The Twitter numbers were pretty good compared to the first day. Until Elon goes to war with me, I would call it Twitter. So, on day 2, I added one post. That is about the first 30 days of blogging results. That did pretty well, and it kind of shows that with right strategy, this could be a huge crowd.

  • Tweets (For the day): 1
  • Total Tweets: 2
  • Impressions: 23
  • Engagement Rate: 8.7%
  • Followers: 0

Chapter 2. Key Takeaways from Day 1

This is a list of what I’ve done and what I still need to do on my blog. This is to explain why I choose to do certain things. This will help you see things from the point of view of a new Blogger.

1. Indexing on search engines

Screenshot 2023 08 26 161855

Well, five out of the six blog posts I wrote were also indexed and ranked. Don’t get confused. When I say “rank,” I mean that they show up when you search for them on Google. But they haven’t gotten any organic traffic yet, of course.

I’ve also noticed that they get indexed in the same order you submit them. So, if you have a post that is more important to you, you should submit that one in first. Google won’t tell you exactly why it didn’t index a post.

I didn’t even realize until today that one post wasn’t indexed. But I’ve sent it to search console many times, and it’s still not being indexed. But I can’t spend the whole day trying to figure it out, so I’ll do it tomorrow instead.

2. I Need to post more often

I barely could post anything today. It was almost the end of the day when i posted it. I didn’t have time to do anything. So, as expected, that turned out badly. Posting that late means even if i get anything from that, that would be the other day. So there is basically no growth for the day. In-fact there was a huge drop compared to day 1. That is a clear indication that i need to keep posting new contents to grow. Posting new contents would let the ranking algorithms would know that this newcomer is doing something.

The best way to grow is to post more, so I need to make a plan to post more than I do now. Also, I need to fix the old pieces because they’re not good enough for anyone to want to read them right now. People already have their favorite blogs, so if I want them to come to mine, I need to be way better than what they have.

3. Increase Domain rating

Domain ratings for incomemenu.com stays at 0 from the first 30 days of blogging challenge.

Again, domain rating stays the same. I will have to consider doing guest post to get a domain rating. Yeah, probably. By the way, if you want to check your domain rating, you can use Ahref’s domain rating checker for free.

In conclusion, Blogging is a lot of work, from setting up the blog to getting people to visit it. So it’s not easy, and we’re making slow progress. But if you work at it every day, you’ll be able to grow it to the point where you’ll know you made it. This slow growth is a part of the journey. Trust the process.

Editor’s Note:
I’ve chosen to stop updating this 30-day blogging challenge every day for now. As my schedule is already very full. So, if I keep doing this, I won’t have enough time to do the most important things.

My main goal should be to do things that will help the blog grow faster. More like making good content, getting backlinks, and making the site rank higher.

Still, I keep track of my progress, lessons I’ve learned, and plans. Once I’ve built a strong base for the blog, I’ll update this series. As I focused on actually achieving, I would be able to tell the audience about a better experience. I guess it would be better for both my readers and me.
